Second nationality and residency

Residency and citizenship programmes are heavily marketed and poorly explained. We work through whether a programme actually fits your situation, and coordinate the application through approved channels.

Start with why

The single most useful question, and the one most rarely asked, is what the second status is actually for. The answers lead to very different, very differently priced routes:

ObjectiveUsually the right route
Live and work in the UAEA UAE residence visa. Comparatively straightforward and inexpensive.
Long-term UAE security without an employerUAE Golden Visa, where you meet a qualifying category.
Travel freedom on a restrictive passportPossibly citizenship by investment, but check whether a residence permit already solves the specific problem.
Contingency against instability at homeDepends heavily on the home country. Sometimes residency is sufficient and far cheaper.
Tax positionA tax question first, an immigration question second. Speak to a qualified tax adviser before spending anything.
The commonest outcome of an honest first conversation is that a residence permit achieves what the client wanted, at a small fraction of the cost of a citizenship programme. We would rather have that conversation than sell the expensive option.

The regulatory position

Citizenship by investment applications are submitted through agents licensed and approved by the government running the programme. Where a route requires an approved agent, an appropriately licensed partner submits the application, and we tell you which one and on what basis. UAE residence and Golden Visa applications go through the relevant UAE authorities and approved channels. Our role is assessment, document preparation, coordination and oversight. We do not give immigration legal advice; where a case has genuine legal complexity you need a regulated immigration adviser and we will say so.

What we do

  • Eligibility assessment. Honestly, including telling you when you do not qualify for something you have been told you do.
  • Route comparison. Cost, timeline, obligations, and what the status actually gives you, side by side.
  • Document preparation. These applications are document-heavy, and attestation and legalisation of civil and educational documents is where most delay occurs. That is a core service of ours, handled in-house.
  • Application coordination through the approved channel for the route.
  • Tracking and follow-up through to decision.

Warnings worth reading

  • Nobody can guarantee an outcome. Any adviser who guarantees approval is either misinformed or dishonest. Decisions rest with the granting authority.
  • Programmes change and close. Several European routes have closed or been restricted in recent years. Verify the current status of any programme before committing funds.
  • Check the tax consequences first. Acquiring a new status can create obligations as well as removing them. This is a question for a qualified tax adviser before, not after.
  • Be careful with your existing nationality. Some countries restrict or do not permit dual nationality. Confirm your position before applying.
  • Escrow your funds properly. Legitimate programmes have defined payment structures. Requests to transfer investment funds to an intermediary's own account are a serious warning sign.

Whose side we are on

Al Hisn Partners acts for the client and only the client. We are retained by you, we take instructions from you, and our fee is paid by you.

We do not accept a fee, commission, rebate or referral payment from the other side of a transaction, or from any counterparty, agent, provider or institution we introduce or work alongside. Not disclosed, not discounted, not at all. If one is offered, we decline it. This is a strict conflict of interest rule and it holds across every service we provide.

Programme agents are typically paid by the government or developer whose programme they sell, which is why so much advice in this field points at one country. We are paid by you, so we can tell you a programme is wrong for you.

Common questions

Can you guarantee I will be approved?

No, and neither can anyone else. The decision rests with the granting authority. Any adviser guaranteeing approval is either misinformed or dishonest, and that alone tells you what you need to know about them.

Do I actually need citizenship, or would residency do?

Very often residency does the job, at a small fraction of the cost. It depends entirely on what you need the status for. That is the first conversation we have, and it frequently ends with us recommending the cheaper route.

Who submits the application?

Where a programme requires a government-approved agent, an appropriately licensed partner submits it and we tell you which one. UAE residence and Golden Visa applications go through the relevant authorities and approved channels. We handle assessment, documents, coordination and oversight.

What causes the most delay?

Documents, almost always. Civil and educational documents needing attestation and legalisation, often from a country the applicant no longer lives in. We handle that chain in-house, which is usually the difference between a smooth application and a stalled one.

Will a second nationality change my tax position?

Possibly, in both directions, and it is a question for a qualified tax adviser before you commit any money rather than after. Acquiring a status can create obligations as well as removing them.

Who pays you, and do you ever take a fee from the other side?

Our client pays us, and only our client. We do not accept a fee, commission, rebate or referral payment from a counterparty, or from any agent, provider, supplier or institution we introduce or work alongside. If one is offered, we decline it. This applies across every service we provide, without exception.
